Visit of H.E. Ambassador Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mijrin Al-Roumy, Director of Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait to Ho Chi Minh City

On 3 June 2013, H.E. Ambassador Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mijrin Al-Roumy, Director of Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait visited Ho Chi Minh City and held talks with Madam Nguyen Thi Hong, Vice Chairperson of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. The aim of the visit is to enhance cooperation between Kuwait and the city in the fields of investment, trade and tourism. Other attendants at the meeting include H.E. Mr. Omar Al-Qenaei, Consul General of Kuwait in HCMC, Mr. Faisal Al-Mutairi, Counselor serving at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait and representatives from the Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Planning and Investment, and Department of External Relations of HCMC. 

The Vice Chairperson highly appreciated the existing good relations between the two countries, especially those between Ho Chi Minh City and the Al-Ahmadi Governorate of Kuwait which culminated in the signing of an MOU on the establishment of the friendly cooperation (sister cities) in December 2010. 

The Asian Director said that Kuwait would like to further enhance investment in Vietnam and expected to witness further increase in two-way trade value between the two countries. He also called for investors from Vietnam to join in the 10-year development economic plan of Kuwait which has total investment capital of USD21 billion.

The Asian Director suggested that the city should send Vietnamese businessmen to Kuwait to meet with Kuwaiti businessmen and explore the market. In addition, each country could organize exhibitions in the other country to introduce its products. He also expected to see further cooperation in academic relations between the two countries and hoped that Vietnam could organize programs to introduce Vietnamese culture to Kuwait.

Madam Nguyen Thi Hong said that the city wished to enhance cooperation with Kuwait in the fields of trade, investment and tourism. She suggested that Kuwait enterprises should establish representative offices in HCMC to keep them informed of the Vietnam’s market and said that HCMC is willing to give full support to Kuwaiti enterprises to organize exhibitions in the city.
