Visit of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Vietnam

From May 5-7, 2016, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah paid an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of His Excellency Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the State of Kuwait, and also comes in the framework of strengthening bilateral relations, as well as supporting joint cooperation, especially in the economic field.

The Vietnamese Premier Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted the key position of Kuwait and other Middle East nations in Vietnam’s diversified and multilateralized foreign policies, stressing the hope to deepen Vietnam-Kuwait relations, which in turn would contribute to the prosperity of each nation for the good of its people and peace and friendship across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the world.

His Highness the Premier lauded the effectiveness of the oil cooperation between the two countries and expressed his wish for combined effort to put into operation the Nghi Son Oil Refinery and Petrochemical project; expected to see more joint projects between the countries; noted Vietnam’s proposal that the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development continue to offer preferential loans to Vietnam to launch rural infrastructure development projects; considered maintaining scholarship programs for Vietnamese students to study Arabic; and mulled taking in more Vietnamese laborers to work in Kuwait.

A number of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed, including one on cultural, artistic and sport cooperation; cooperation agreement between the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and a framework agreement to expand the Nghi Son Oil Refinery and Petrochemical project.

During the visit, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah also paid courtesy calls on General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang.
